***Call to Action***
To President Biden
Carolina Peace Center is calling on DHS and CBP to withdraw a proposed regulation that would dramatically expand the use of face recognition technology at airports. This rule would allow CBP to require all noncitizens entering or exiting the US to submit to face recognition, and would allow CBP to collect “faceprints” for future use. DHS can store these faceprints for up to 75 years and law enforcement can use them for unrelated purposes.
“This plan is unjustified, unnecessary, and dangerous. Once the government acquires a person’s faceprint, it creates a risk of an unprecedented form of persistent surveillance. Our faces can be monitored covertly, at a distance, and without our consent, ACLU”
If President Biden wants to uphold his commitment to racial equity and civil liberties for all, then he must take immediate action on this issue in his first 100 days. That is why we are urging him to impose a federal moratorium on face recognition technology and prevent state and local governments from using federal funds to purchase it.
Please call and write to your your elected officials to reach out to President Biden and TELL BIDEN: HALT DANGEROUS FACE RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGIES
“Face recognition technology is a threat to all our civil liberties and exhibits significant racial, gender, and other biases. I’m urging you to immediately impose a federal moratorium on face recognition technology and prevent state and local governments from using federal funds to purchase it.”
Sincerely,
