Moving Forward
Questions and frustration hovers across America as the nation recovers from tragic events of Wednesday where the radicalized right wing terrorists stormed into the nation’s heart, the capitol building while the United States Congress was in session to certify and confirm Biden’s presidency. A planned coup d’état that failed.
How a super power that has state of the art surveillance and intelligence technology where billions of dollars have been put into developing this infrastructure was not able to detect and identify the planning of these dangerous criminals who not only were planning to break into the capitol building but now we know that there were plans to kidnap and God knows what else they were planning to do.
The threat of domestic terrorism from right wing extremism radicalized under the white Supremacist ideology is number one threat to our nation’s prosperity and democracy. Americans who give allegiance to trumpism and hang trump flags in their yards need to understand that they are siding with dangerous views and beliefs of fascist ideology. An ideology of white race superiority over all other races and backgrounds including non Christian beliefs. This needs to be rejected and openly discussed in all mediums including in homes and religious gatherings in small towns and cities.
The failure of armored law enforcement to be present in advance to protect the elected officials, staff and press at the capitol building is mind boggling and it begs a thorough and rigorous investigation why they were not there early on when it was clear that a rally was being planned with hateful rhetoric of trump and others and why the response to attacks on Capitol building was slow and late. The leaders in Washington have a responsibility and duty to openly discuss and figure out why in other peaceful events including Black Lives Matter events there have been heavy presence of armored force but there wasn’t when the capitol building was stormed this past Wednesday. We continue to witness double standards how news media and law enforcement refrains from labeling terrorism when committed by white Supremacist or nationalist groups.
Facebook, Instagram and Twitter deserves no credit or applause for suspending trump’s social media because they should have done that many years ago when trump started to use that as a bait to galvanize and mobilize millions of people to adhere to his hateful and divisive tactics. News media including major networks are partially to be blamed for inviting personnel from previous administrations and think tanks that have played a role in using language or supported policies that were harmful to people whether abroad or at home.
The rise of white supremacy and right wing extremism is a problem that started long time ago in this country that have been left unchecked resulting into Jim Crow segregated policies and KKK culminating into new brand of right wing white Supremacist nationalists who are seriously misinformed and brain washed by dangerous extremist news media and some policy makers. I am afraid that it has spilled over into many branches of the government and law enforcement and the evidence is very clear given the terrible events of December 6th.
How do we move forward and reconcile as a nation. If we truly believe and want a country that follows laws and the constitutional values then justice must be the guiding light for all of us and the standard for all Americans irrespective of their status and position. Meaning that it starts from top to bottom. trump must be impeached to set the precedent that no one is above the law including the president of the United States. He incited violence with his hateful and divisive rhetoric that have been brewing for years. Elected officials like Cruz and Hawley have no place in the halls of our legislative branch and they must be told to resign. They too incited hateful rhetoric that instigated anger and revenge based on falsehood and lies. More than twelve Republican state lawmakers attended this rally that that turned into terrorism must resign immediately.
The hateful rhetoric and extreme xenophobic, Islamophobic, anti Semitic, misogynist, sexist, and racist narrative and campaign slogans among politicians in the past and media at all levels gave birth to this new sad and threatening reality. This is how these people were radicalized and conditioned that are a serious danger to our nation’s stability. We move forward by holding our elected officials who we elected accountable for lack of action or lack of supporting policies that will ameliorate the condition of people. They are elected to be in public office to serve their people. There is a reason they are called public servants.
We move forward by not being hateful and angry but show compassion and empathy towards each other and respecting views and opinions as long as they are not rooted or hinted in oppressing anyone. We move forward by respecting both conservative and liberal views and develop a level of mutual respect at all levels of our lives. We move forward when we truly accept and implement justice and just policies for all people here and abroad. We cannot look away anymore from how our own hypocrisy and double standards are impacting countries abroad. Karma has its ways and this was a wake up call for all of us that we need to get our act together. If we as Americans want a prosperous and vibrant democracy for ourselves then we must allow other nations to do the same by putting our interests aside and allowing peoples’ interest come first.
We move forward by seriously passing policies and initiatives to provide quality healthcare for all Americans, affordable education for all Americans, better salaries and wages for all Americans working from retail to teachers and bus drivers. A better life with decent standards of living can and will affect in many positive ways that will trickle down in all levels of our society.
Moving forward I ask all to have an open and constructive conversations with your children, families and friends on all these issues using empathy and compassion as your guiding tool. We move forward today by appreciating this day with gratitude and love to ourselves and others.
