We Oppose the NC Senate Bill 101

SB 101
Tell lawmakers to oppose SB 101
Carolina Peace Center oppose North Carolina Senate Bill 101 (SB 101) requiring local sheriff officers to cooperate with ICE to interrogate individuals about their immigration status and assist (ICE) federal agents in detentions and deportations. We will be holding a press conference soon.
This Bill is a copycat of HB 370 that was vetoed by Governor Cooper in 2019. HB 370 would have required similar action from the sheriffs. The undignified retaliatory actions by some of N.C. legislators is deeply worrisome and disappointing. Instead of uniting communities, some politicians are more focused on harming immigrant communities when they should be focused on more important current pressing issues challenging North Carolinians.
We need you to take action today to help stop a copycat of that same harmful policy. Please email and call.
Script:
“I am writing today to urge you to oppose SB 101, Require Cooperation with ICE 2.0. This proposed legislation provides no protections for witnesses and crime victims, including domestic violence survivors, who may be deterred from reporting if they believe law enforcement is working with ICE. Local law enforcement shouldn’t have to do ICE’s bidding when it harms community trust and safety.”
I strongly urge you to reject SB 101.
Sincerely,
